Vodka Cup?

So, I read an article today about a woman who is the director of Mixology for Wynn Las Vegas. Yes, she gets paid to create high-end cocktails... how cool is that? She just placed 4th at the Finlandia Vodka Cup, which is the Olympics of the cocktail world. Her name is Patricia Richards and her 4th place finish was the highest American finish in the 12-year history of this competition. What struck me when I read the article was that at the age of 4 she was removed from her mom's care because the courts deemed her mom unfit (she was schizophrenic) and was placed with foster parents. As she grew, she found refuge in the kitchen and began expressing her creativity through food. But it was in bartending that she found her calling.

Which leads to my point. Here is a child of the foster care system who has since become the the first woman to hold an executive level mixology position in Las Vegas. She talks about the challenges she overcame in working to be promoted over the "boys" and going from a line employee to senior management. I began to think about how inspiring it is that she continued to strive for something that a lot of people would deem impossible!

Isn't that what CrossFit is all about? Doing something that other people think is impossible? Whether it's giving up treats for two weeks, working toward advanced skills like pull-ups, completing a lift even when your brain is telling you the weight feels "too heavy", or simply just showing up and completing a CrossFit WOD. Every day you come into the box and do what most people think is impossible!

How many times have you tried to explain what you do at CrossFit and your friends, co-workers, or neighbors say "I could never do that!"? Be impressed with yourself! And remember, just when  you think you've done the impossible, we BELIEVE you can achieve all the possibilities :) You all ROCK and we are so honored to have you all as part of our CrossFit family!

Let's see what impossibilities we can accomplish together!

PS: The Finlandia Vodka Cup competition is held in an ice dome in northern Finland.
