Big Chick... Little Chick...

Have you ever wondered if there really is a difference between the chicken you purchase from a grocery store and chicken you purchase from a butcher shop? Have you seen Food Inc or King Corn? Well, here's a real life example. The other day, Shaw bought some chicken from Fred Meyer without knowing that I had stopped at Butcher Boys the same day. (Great minds do think alike! ha ha)

So, we seasoned and grilled it all and once it was on the plate... this is what we saw.

Can you guess which one came from Butcher Boys? (And, no, Shaw didn't use any of his geeky phone gadgets to doctor up the photo... in case you were wondering!)

Now, obviously, there are two of the larger pieces but if you compare the size of one... makes you wonder, huh? Butcher Boys gets their chickens from a farm in Oregon. They are free roaming and fed no steroids or antibiotics, etc.  The price is comparable, and the pieces are almost always this big! And, they are always super friendly when I go in there! :)
